More than 8,000 Beneficiaries Reached: Orange CSR highlights major gains in Health Care

As part of its 2023 Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), Orange Sierra Leone has reinforced its dedication to transparency, ethical business practices, and community engagement through various health and well-being initiatives, according to Orange 2023 CRS Report.

The company, through its Orange Foundation, partnered with key organizations to address critical health issues and improve access to care in underprivileged communities.

One of the standout interventions was the Safeguarding Maternal Mortality project, launched in collaboration with ICAP and the Mama Pikin Foundation. This initiative aligns with the Ministry of Health’s target to reduce maternal mortality rates in Sierra Leone.

It introduced a multi-screening facility aimed at detecting diseases in pregnant women and children under five. The program provided free medical care to over 10,000 households in communities like Kroo Bay, where tailored healthcare education was also offered. Key impacts include: -296 pregnant women were connected to antenatal clinics for safe deliveries; 2,000 community members were screened for conditions such as HIV, blood sugar levels, malaria, and anemia; 1,327 women in Bombali, Kenema, and York were reached with health interventions and nine Public Health Units were supported through the project.

In addition to maternal care, Orange Sierra Leone marked Autism Awareness Day by partnering with The Autistic Society to promote the human rights of autistic individuals, ensuring they receive equal opportunities.

For Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the Orange Foundation partnered with Thinking Pink Breast Cancer Foundation to run a sensitization and screening campaign across communities, offices, and regional areas.

On World Malaria Day, in partnership with AutoHealth Group, Orange Sierra Leone raised awareness about the prevention and treatment of malaria.

Another major project launched in collaboration with USAID was the Health-Grid Project. This initiative is set to install sustainable energy systems in 26 remote, off-grid healthcare facilities across Sierra Leone. Powered by solar photovoltaic (PV) electricity, the systems will ensure a reliable energy supply to these health centers, enabling the use of essential medical equipment and access to clean water.

Over 5,000 beneficiaries have been impacted, including 770 school pupils, 1,573 market vendors, 147 marathon participants, and 74 health fair participants.

Through these initiatives, Orange Sierra Leone continues to lead in improving healthcare access and outcomes, demonstrating its deep commitment to the well-being of Sierra Leonean communities.
