Morocco to Play Friendly Match Against Sierra Leone Ahead of AFCON

This match comes as a replacement for the Morocco-Gambia match which was expected to take place on January 7.

The match will take place at 6:00 p.m. Moroccan Time at the San Pedro stadium in Cote d’Ivoire.

Rabat – As part of its preparation for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), which is set to take place on January 13 in Cote d’Ivoire, the Moroccan national football team will play a friendly game against its Sierra Leonean counterpart on January 11.

The Sierra Leone Football Association announced the news today on its official Facebook page.

The match will take place at 4:00 p.m. Moroccan Time at the San Pedro stadium in Cote d’Ivoire, the same venue where Morocco will compete during the African showpiece.

Morocco was expected to play the friendly against Gambia on January 7, but the match was canceled and the Moroccan team had to fly to Cote d’Ivoire.

On January 2, the Atlas Lions began their first training session at the Mohammed VI Football Complex in Maamoura, under the management of head coach Walid Regragui. They then headed to Cote d’Ivoire to continue preparations.

During their latest training session, some players spoke to the media about their preparations.

“Everything is going well … We know that the fans are waiting for us, and I can tell them that we will do our best to win the title,” goalkeeper Munir Mohamedi said.

For his part, midfielder Bilal El Khannouss stated that the team will “train well ahead of the tournament to be well-prepared … The weather is not very hot because it has rained recently.”

“We are aware that Moroccan fans are always there, and we will do everything to make them proud. I thank them for the support they always give us,” El Khannouss added.

The continental tournament is scheduled to kick off on January 13 and will run until February 11, with the participation of the best 24 teams in Africa.

The October 12 AFCON draw placed Morocco in Group F alongside Tanzania, DR Congo, and Zambia. They will compete in the group stage matches with Morocco facing Tanzania in the first game on January 17.
