Freetown, Sierra Leone β Ibrahim Deen, a staff member of the National Youth Service, appeared before Magistrate Santigie Bangura at Pademba Road Court No. 2 on Wednesday, March 19, 2025. He is facing two charges: malicious damage under Section 51 of the Malicious Damage Act of 1861 and threatening language under Section 3(i) of the Public Order Act No. 46 of 1965.
According to the prosecution, the incident occurred on March 3, 2025, at 37 Spur Road in the Western Area. Deen allegedly damaged a wooden door valued at 7,000 Leones, the property of the complainant, Valentina Norman. In addition, he is accused of using threatening language towards the complainant, saying, βAr go chap di domot en damage you,β with the intent to provoke a breach of the peace.
Deen pleaded not guilty to the charges when they were read in court. His legal counsel requested bail, arguing that Deen is a Sierra Leonean resident with reliable sureties who are prepared to vouch for him. The defense assured the court that the accused would neither interfere with witnesses nor abscond.
Magistrate Bangura granted bail in the amount of 300,000 Leones with one surety. The surety is required to present a recent NCRA identity card verifying their Freetown address, with the bail subject to approval by the Deputy Assistant Registrar.
The matter has been adjourned to March 31, 2025, for further proceedings.
