Nigerian Remanded for Possessing CocaineĀ

Chris Emmanuel a Nigerian National has on Wednesday November 15th 2023 been sent to prison by Magistrate Mark Ngegba of Pademba Road Court No1 for unlawfully possessing Cocaine and kush without lawful authority.

The accused was arraigned for three counts of Unlawful Possession of class A drugs contrary to section 17 of the Pharmacy and Drug Act 2001.

According to the particulars of offense on count one, the accused Chris Emmanuel on Friday 13th October 2023 at Baoma Goderich in the Western Area was found in possession of class A drugs, Methamphetamine, which is a controlled drug weighting 60.50 grams without lawful authority.

The police further alleged on count two that the accused on the same date and place was found in possession of five tablets of heroin, which is also a controlled drug without lawful authority.

 The third count added that the accused on the same date and place was found in possession of a quantity of Kush tied in a plastic, weighing 15.8 grams without lawful authority.

After the charges had been read and explained to the accused he was not asked to answer whether he was guilty or innocent.

 Defense Counsel Y. K. T. Mansaray unsuccessfully applied for the accused to be admitted to bail pursuant to section 79 of the Criminal Procedure Act No: 32 of 1965.

Police Sergeant 9939 Lahai M.  asked for a date to come with witnesses in the matter.

Magistrate Ngegba then adjourned the matter to the 22nd of November 2023 for further hearing.
