Natasha Beckley, a popular local musician, has recently started a ‘Trash to Treasure project’ in schools, a scheme which is aimed at bringing schools onboard in transforming trash within their various campuses to something useful.
Twenty-four schools were selected to be part of the competition.
The rapper said that the project is aimed at keeping the schools clean as well as transforming trash into something useful.
She said, “I care about the environment and I want my high school fans to keep their school environments clean. I am challenging each school that I visit to turn the trash in their school to a treasure art piece. Sierra Leonean youth deserve to learn in a clean and healthy environment.”
Natasha said that at the end of the project, all the 24 schools selected would be asked to present their projects, and that the top five schools with great creative ideas, would be awarded prizes. “For the best innovative ideas, 24 million Leones would be awarded to the top five schools,” she said.
She said that the cash prize given to the top five schools would serve as a help to construct good functioning toilets, canteens and add more benches in their various classrooms.
“To keep the project going in each school, I established the Natasha Beckley Trash to Treasure environment club. I hope to continue with this project yearly. Some schools are so clean. I commend the teachers and students,” she said.
Natasha Beckley has visited over five schools: Muslim Congress, Albert Academy Secondary School, Methodist Boys High school, St Helena Secondary, Government Model Secondary school etc.
She thanked the National Petroleum for their supports. “I just want to thank National Petroleum (NP) for their support. I also thank the teachers, and the school Principals for welcoming me,” she concluded.
