NRA Staff Drag Two to Court for Theft

An accountant at National Revenue Authority (NRA), John Kamanda Kanu has on Tuesday, July 11, 2023, dragged to Court Samuel Thoronka and Hassan Bangura for allegedly stealing in his house.

The accused made their first appearance before Magistrate Isata Sellu Tucker of Pademba road court No 2 and were arraigned on two counts of conspiracy to commit a felony contrary to law, burglary and larceny contrary to section 25(2) and 13(a) of The Larceny Act 1916.

According to the chargesheet, on count 1, both accused persons  Samuel Thoronka alias Jahjao and Hassan Bangura on Sunday, May 14, 2023, at Sammie Town, Freetown, conspired with other person’s unknown to commit burglary and larceny.

While in count 2, both accused on the same date and place, with intent to steal, broke and entered into the dwelling house of John Kamanda Kanu and stole food and nonfood items valued at NLe 8,460 (eight thousand four hundred and sixty Leones), property of John Kamanda Kanu.

When the charges were read and explained to them, no plea was taken and no legal representation was made on their behalf.

 Magistrate Sellu Tucker remanded both accused in until July 19, 2023 when the matter comes up again for hearing.
