Pastor Edward George, the head of non-formal school at Don Bosco Fambul, has on Thursday donated school learning materials and other items to pupils of the Don Bosco Fambul.
George said since he took over in 1999 he has been donating the learning materials to pupils as a learning incentive after they complete their stay at the home, adding that encouraging pupils in such a way would help them to be happy and always ready to do their best.
He revealed that Don Boscoe Fambul provides children with non-formal education from beginner one to JSS, in order to prepare them for the formal sector after they would have left their care.
“Since they are here temporally, we educate them non-formally; we introduce them to the syllabus which the formal sector used to teach, so that when they are out of here they would not find it difficult to cope with life,” he said.
He said many pupils had gone through Don Bosco Fambul who are lawyers, bankers etc.
He commented that, sometimes due to their rigid recruitment process at Don Bosco Fambul, they stay in the street in search of children as late as 12:00am to 1:00am in order to spot and meet with vulnerable once every month.
He said that in most cases the children they find in the streets are those who usually live with guardians.
Pastor advised parents to own up to the responsibility of being the ones who should raise their children in order to avoid such abuse on them. He said that children are God-given and precious gifts which everyone should treat seriously.
