Kandeh Momoh De-phoreh II, the Paramount Chief of Bramaia Chiefdom Kambia District northern Sierra Leone, in a bid to preserve peace and celebrate the rich cultural heritage of his people, has successfully organized an intersectional cultural festival in the Chiefdom.
The event took place at the United Field in Kukuna Town and the Chiefdom’s five sections- Kukuna, KankuBramaia, Filiqunyi, TenembaBramaia and Fortunbunyi sections- were all represented at the event.
Paramount ChiefKandeh Sorieof GbelehChiefdom and Paramount ChiefKandeh Kogba of TonkoLimba Chiefdom also attended celebrations. In the event there was story-telling, magical displays, cultural singing and dancing, talent explosion etc.
According to P.C. De-phoreh II, the event was held to educate the people about the importance of maintaining and practising their cultural values.
He addedthat culture always enhances unity and development in any society.
“I realized that the western culture has totally dominated and caused people to forget about their culture. Our culture is unique, so to bring them back alive we are holding cultural festivals in our communities… That is the reason I decided to have such event in my chiefdom,” he said.
The Paramount Chiefadded that in a bid to motivate traditional musicians in the five sections of his chiefdom, they bought some traditional musical instruments.
He promised that the event would be held every year from now on.
P.C. Kandeh Kogba IV commented that he was very happy to witness the cultural festival, stating that such event could not only help the youths to learn and understand their lands but could as well educate them on how to live peacefully with one another in the society, and he thanked P.C. De-Phoreh II for coming up with the initiative.
“I was entertained, educated and motivated by all the performers,” he said.
