Freetown, Sierra Leone – The trial of Abubakarr Turay, Fatmata Bangura, and their daughter, Kadiatu Turay, continued Wednesday, April 23, 2025, before Magistrate Sahr Kekura at the Freetown Magistrate Court No.1. The three individuals are accused of stealing $7,000 while serving as caretakers at the residence of Sierra Leonean football star Kai Kamara.

The accused face two charges: conspiracy to commit a crime and larceny, both in violation of the Larceny Act of 1916. According to police reports, the alleged theft occurred on January 15, 2025, at Kamara’s apartment on Fadika Drive, Hill Station, Freetown. Prosecutors claim that the trio conspired to steal the sum, equivalent to 170,100 New Leones, belonging to Kamara.

During the court proceedings, the first accused, Abubakarr Turay, pleaded not guilty, while Fatmata Bangura and her daughter Kadiatu Turay admitted to the offense.

Testifying as a prosecution witness, Police Constable 14010 Fonneh Kargbo, attached to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) at Pademba Road, recalled the events of January 16, 2025. She stated that at approximately 3:00 PM, Kamara filed a theft report against Bangura and Turay, leading to an immediate investigation.

Kargbo narrated that, along with a team of investigators, she proceeded to the crime scene. Upon arrival, Kamara identified Bangura, who was subsequently arrested at his residence.

However, during her testimony, Constable Kargbo was unable to complete her statement, prompting Magistrate Kekura to adjourn the case to May 6, 2025, for the continuation of her testimony.

The accused remain out on bail as the legal proceedings unfold.
