Fengai Babonjo, a police recruit was on Thursday, October 26, 2023, sent to prison by Magistrate Mark Ngegba of Pademba Road Court No1 for unlawful possession of 43 wraps of Cannabis Sativa at the Sierra Leone Peacekeeper Law Enforcement Academy in Hastings.
The accused was arraigned on one count of Unlawful Possession of Cannabis Sativa contrary to section 8(a) of the National Drugs Control Act 2008, Act No.10 of 2008.
According to the indictment, the accused on Saturday, September 30, 2023, at the Sierra Leone Police Peacekeeping and law Enforcement Academy (SILEA), was found in possession of 43 wraps of Cannabis Sativa contained in a white paper weighing 20.5 grams, without lawful authority.
No plea was taken.
The prosecutor ASP Ibrahim S. Mansaray requested an adjournment to call his witness.
According to brief fact of the matter, it was one Allieu Jalloh attached to the Peacekeeping Training School who arrested the accused while he was performing his routine checks.
Magistrate Ngegba refused to admit the accused on bail.
The matter was adjourned to November 2, 2023 for further hearing.
