Police Witness Leads Evidence  over Allegation of False NASSIT Claim

Detective Inspector Fatmata Bash Koroma attached at the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) on Monday, March 6, 2023, testified against one Aloysius Borbor Barbar who is before the court over allegation of financial impropriety.

Testifying before Magistrate Marke Ngegba at the Pademba Road Court No. 1 in Freetown, Detective Fatmata Bash Koroma recalled that on February 22, 2021, a case was reported to the CID by one Ishmael Karankay, an investigating officer at the National Social Security and Insurance Trust (NASSIT), on behalf of the institution.

The witness said that upon receipt of the case, she obtained a statement from the complainant and the witness. He mentioned that the complainant submitted documents in respect of the allegation.

Among other documents submitted include a certificate of native marriage purported and signed by the Bo District Council.

 The documents were tendered in court and marked as exhibit A1-17.

The witness said that on February 22, 2021, the accused was interviewed by D. Corporal 10256 Bangura E.S. The witness also produced the statement of the accused marked B1-14

On February 26, 2021, a team of detectives headed by her went to Bo District Council on an inquiry and a report was forwarded to the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP).

Detective Lahai M. is prosecuting the matter.

The matter has was adjourned to March 20, 2023, while the accused person is on bail.

The accused Aloysius Borbor Barbaris faced several charges including conspiracy to defraud, forgery, uttering a forged document, making a false statement, furnishing a false statement, and causing money to be paid by false pretenses all contrary to the laws of Sierra Leone.

According to the police, the accused on a date unknown between 15, 2019 and February 23. 2021, in Kakua Chiefdom, Bo District, with intent to defraud, conspired with another person unknown and defrauded the National Social Security and Insurance Trust and obtained survivors benefits by forging certificates of native marriage.

Police claimed that the accused on the same date and place presented a false/forged certificate and received over two hundred million Leones by saying Amie Mary Tua is his wife with the pretext of claiming survivors’ benefits, which is known to be false.
