The Chairman of the Union of Premier League Clubs in Sierra Leone Noel Kitami Horton on Monday, March 21, 2022 issued a press release calling on all clubs to withhold their participation in the ongoing Salone Premier League 2021/22 which resume on Wednesday, March 23, 2022.
This came because the League is yet to have a sponsor and clubs are yet to know the prize money for the winner of the League and officially number of teams that will be relegated.
The release went on to state that earlier it was agreed between the Premier League Board and the Union of Premier League Clubs that after four (4) matches in the second rounds of the League, the demand of the clubs will be met, but this has not happened.
He further stated that though this is a difficult decision by the members, they will resume after their demands are met. A member of the Sierra Leone Premier League Board, Ishmael Kanu said that let the Union write officially to the Board with clubs signatures confirming their decision. “As it is we are not going to make any comments because it is not official,” he said.
