President of ‘Keke’ Riders Union Engages LAB on Challenges in Accessing Justice

The President of theSierra Leone Commercial Tricycle Union/Keke Riders Union, Honor Bonor Samba Kamara paid a courtesy call on the Executive Director of Legal Aid Board, Ms. Fatmata Claire Carlton-Hanciles on Tuesday, 11 January 2022 to brief her on justice problems and challengesfaced by members of their union. ‘As your clients, we would like you to know the justice problems we face and to call on you to do more by way of increasing your support to our members,’ Bonor said.

Ms. Carlton-Hanciles said the Board was in discussions with key players in the Government to recruit more lawyers and paralegalsto meet the increasing demand for its service. She noted that the Board needs more personnel toprovide legal assistance to the thousands of motorbike/Okada and tricycle/Keke riders around the country who fall foul of the law.

‘With 18 Legal Aid Counsels and 65 Paralegals as against 1,600,000 Motorbike/Okada and Tricycle/Keke rider clients around the country, it is never going to be easy for us,’ Ms. Carlton-Hanciles said. She added that ‘‘It will interest you to know that you are an integral part of our anti-election violence strategy and that is why this meeting is very important to us,’ she said.
