Freetown, Sierra Leone – October 19, 2024 – Brace yourselves for a cinematic event like no other as Project Star 10, the renowned Freetown-based film production company, is set to premiere its latest blockbuster, Ghetto Island. The highly anticipated film, directed by the acclaimed Omojowo Augustus Thomas, promises to deliver a gripping tale of crime, survival, and redemption that will leave audiences on the edge of their seats.
Scheduled to debut in Waterloo, Western Area Rural District, Ghetto Island dives deep into a world where lawlessness reigns supreme. The plot unfolds on a secluded island, a notorious refuge for the most dangerous criminals who have evaded justice. Led by a ruthless leader, these fugitives periodically emerge from hiding to wreak havoc on the mainland before retreating to their island stronghold.
Omojowo Augustus Thomas, celebrated for his previous hits Jane Rambo: Daughter of the Jungle (2018) and Breaking the Rules (2010), teams up with Director Cylux for this thrilling production. The film is backed by Executive Producer Michael Mansaray, with a compelling script penned by Silver Edred.
In an exclusive interview with Premier News on September 3, 2024, Omojowo revealed that Ghetto Island is more than just an action-packed adventure—it’s a stark warning about the inevitable consequences of crime. “The film illustrates that negative actions inevitably lead to negative consequences,” Omojowo explained. “It also highlights the crucial role of safety and security in maintaining national stability. Our leaders must uncover and address these hidden pockets of criminality to protect our nation and its people.”
The story centers around a child whose life is shattered when her mother is brutally murdered by the island’s criminal leader. After a fierce confrontation, the child wounds the leader but is forced to flee, ultimately washing ashore on the very island she was trying to escape. There, she encounters a rogues’ gallery of criminals, facing relentless danger at every turn.
In a shocking twist, the child’s estranged biological father—unbeknownst to her—also resides on the island. A former lover of her mother, he had impregnated her before their separation. Now, the child, trained to be a warrior, must fight not only for her survival but to liberate the island from its criminal overlords.
“The movie conveys powerful messages that have the potential to impact society and transform lives,” Omojowo stated, hinting at the film’s underlying themes of justice, retribution, and the fight for freedom.
With its electrifying mix of high-stakes action and profound moral lessons, Ghetto Island is poised to be a game-changer in Sierra Leone’s film industry. As the premiere date approaches, excitement is building, and audiences are eagerly awaiting what promises to be one of the most thought-provoking and entertaining films of the year.
