Dubai, UAE – On September 17, 2024, Sierra Leonean rapper and peace ambassador Alhaji Amadu Bah, widely known as LAJ, led a crucial meeting with Sierra Leone’s Ambassador to the UAE, Rashid Sesay, to address concerns within the Sierra Leonean community and promote unity among its members living in the United Arab Emirates.

LAJ, appointed Peace Ambassador by President Julius Maada Bio in February 2024, emphasized his mission to foster reconciliation and peace both in Sierra Leone and across its diaspora. “I urge Sierra Leoneans to embody the values championed by President Bio, advocating for harmony both domestically and abroad,” LAJ stated during the meeting.

One pressing issue discussed was the growing number of Sierra Leoneans in custody due to immigration-related issues. In response, LAJ proposed a series of town hall meetings across Dubai and the UAE to engage the community and educate them on maintaining peace and stability. “Peace is in our hands, and we must ensure that we maintain it for the betterment of Sierra Leone,” he stressed.

LAJ also cautioned against the dangers of social media incitement and drug distribution, aligning his message with President Bio’s national efforts to combat these issues. Ambassador Sesay echoed LAJ’s call for unity and reiterated the embassy’s commitment to supporting Sierra Leoneans in need.

The rapper’s initiative underscores the importance of solidarity among the diaspora and proactive engagement to address the challenges Sierra Leoneans face abroad. Since his appointment, LAJ has spearheaded several peace awareness efforts, both locally and internationally, solidifying his role as a dedicated advocate for peace.
