Retailer Jailed 12 Months for Wounding

Sahr Amarah, a retailer, was yesterday sentenced to 12 months in prison for maliciously wounding one Amna Amarah after pleading guilty to the offence.

He made his first appearance before Magistrate Peter Gogra of Pademba road court No.6 in Freetown and was charged with  two counts of  wounding contrary to section 20 of The Offences Against the Person Act 1861 and Assault occasioning actual bodily harm contrary to section 47 of The Offences Against the Person Act 1861.

According to the particulars of offence, the accused on Monday,  October 24, 2022 at State  Avenue in  the western area in Freetown maliciously wounded and assaulted Amna Amarah in a manner thereby occasioning her actual bodily harm.

When the charges were read and explained to the accused, he pleaded guilty.

The prosecutor told the bench that the case is fact as charge, and that there is no available record against the accused person.

The accused person who was not represented, in his plea mitigation, beg the bench to tamper justice with mercy, adding he has learnt his lesson.

However, Magistrate Gogra sentenced the accused person to 13 months in prison.

Assistant Superintendent of police Abdul Sannoh prosecuted the matter.
