A non-profitable organization, Rotary Club of Freetown, on Friday July 1, 2022, unveiled its new president and officers at an annual event held in Freetown.
The object of Rotary Clubs is to encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise and to encourage and foster the development of acquaintances, ethical standard in profession, and the advancement of international standing and goodwill.
The Inducted President, Hawa Sallay Samai said that as a female president, she encouraged all rotarians to come onboard directly and indirectly to support the cause of the club in empowering deprived communities.
She added that during her one-year tenure, interventions on women and girl will be one of her top priorities for obvious reason, adding that they would also continue the water is life project and the basic education literacy programme through mentorship and scholarship.
“As this is an election year, we will also focus on peace and conflict prevention. Its only when you served with the bill of war that you realize that no price was too high to pay for peace,” Samai said.
The outgoing President of Rotary Club of Freetown, Alpha O. Jalloh recounted that in the in his tenure they have been able to award scholarship to 22 deserving pupils, sustain the 14-years old water is life project, expanded the hasting reservoir from 160,000 to 270,000 liters of pipe borne water to the community.
He added they have supported disease prevention and treatment, supported the environment and have also provided emergency responses recently to the Wellington and Susan’s Bay fire disasters.
“All these great accomplishments happened because of you, fellow Rotarians. Thanks for giving me this opportunity and fully supporting me. It is very satisfying, and it make the effort worthwhile,” Jalloh said.
