Rotary Club of Freetown Sunset, Partners Begin Sanitation Project at Lumley-Aberdeen Beach

In a significant move towards enhancing sanitation at the Lumley-Aberdeen beach, the Rotary Club of Freetown Sunset, in collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism and the National Tourist Board Sierra Leone, has commenced the construction of toilet facilities at the beach. This initiative aims to tackle hygiene issues and health risks, particularly in areas with high visitor traffic or where open defecation is prevalent.

The president of the Rotary Club of Freetown Sunset, Millicent Cole, emphasized the broader impact of the project, stating, “This facility will serve not only this community, it will serve a wider populace.” She highlighted the long-term benefits for beachgoers and the wider Sierra Leonean community.

Fatmata Muda Carew, the General Manager of the National Tourist Board, expressed her gratitude towards the Rotary Club for their leadership. She noted the lack of toilet facilities at the Lumley-Aberdeen beach and praised the significant steps taken by the Rotary Club to address this issue.

Ahmed Karim Bangura, the councilor of Ward 443 (Aberdeen), also extended his thanks to the Rotary Club and its partners. He assured the community’s full support for the project until its completion.

The new facilities will include four rooms, with separate sections for males and females, as well as a ramp to ensure accessibility for the physically challenged. This project marks a major step forward in improving sanitation and hygiene at one of Sierra Leone’s most popular beaches.
