By Ibrahim S. Bangura

Salamatu Bangura, also known as Sale Bangs is a Sierra Leonean musician based in Conakry, Guinea, who on Friday July 19, 2024, released a song titled, ‘Saya’. The song is in memory of her mother who passed on several years earlier.

‘Saya’ is a Susu word for ‘death’. Through the song the 12-year-old, expressed the emotions which the loss of her mother caused her.

According to her she doesn’t what a mother’s love felt like, because she was not fortunate to experience it.

“It’s over a decade now since I lost my mother. The idea of officially releasing this single has been borne out of the need to keep my mother’s memory alive and to enlighten those whose mothers are alive to be grateful to them. Someone could love you but not as much as your mother could. When I missed my mother, it seems to me that I have missed everything in life even though I have been receiving so much love from my brothers, I-Bangs and Soul Bangs. I realized that you will be loved by someone’s mother, but they could never be your mother. Only your mother could understand your pain without you telling her. Your mother will always love you and be there for you no matter your condition,” she said.

Bangs explained that she started a career in music at 7 when she was inspired by her brothers. She stated that she usually sings ‘RnB’, ‘Mamaya’, ‘Reggae’ and sometimes ‘hip-hop’.
