A security guard, Ibrahim Kamara, has been remanded at the Male Correctional Facility in Freetown after facing charges of Office Breaking and Larceny as well as Malicious Damage. Kamara is accused of stealing and vandalizing property worth over 35,000 New Leones from Defence for Children International (DCI) in Freetown. Magistrate Santigie Bangura of Pademba Road Court No.2 presided over the case on Wednesday, April 2, 2025.

The alleged incident took place on February 1, 2025, at DCI’s office in Tengbeh Town, Freetown. Police reports indicate that Kamara maliciously damaged items including a cabinet, ceiling, and assorted goods, and stole cash totaling 5,500 New Leones alongside three pairs of slippers.

Key witness John Tarawally, the Finance Officer at DCI, testified to the courtroom. He recounted receiving a call from his colleague and complainant, Sarah Saffa, who alerted him to the break-in. Upon arriving at the office, Tarawally noticed damage to the ceiling of the Director’s office and the disappearance of a CCTV camera along with its laptop. He advised Saffa to report the incident to the Congo Cross police, leading to further investigation.

Kamara, who represented himself in court, pleaded not guilty to the charges and cross-examined Tarawally. However, Magistrate Bangura denied him bail and ordered him to remain in custody as the matter was adjourned to April 7, 2025, for continuation.

This case serves as a reminder of the importance of trust and accountability within professional environments. The investigation continues as the court seeks to determine Kamara’s guilt.
