Sierra Leone: Accused Sentenced to Seven Days in Prison

The Principal Magistrate of court No.1, Hannah Bonnie has on Wednesday June 10, 2020 cautioned and sentenced one Alie Conde who admitted to wounding and assaulting Amara Mansaray to seven days in prison.

Conde was accused of wounding and assaulting and occasioning actual bodily harm to Amara Mansaray, his victim.

According of the particulars of offence, the accused on Friday May 22, 2020, at Indian Temple, Off Wilkinson Road maliciously wounded and assaulted Amara Mansaray.

After the charges were read and explained to the accused by the police, he pleaded guilty on both counts.

The accused told the court that he is not a first time offender, adding that he has been arraigned before Magistrate Hannah Bonnie on about three other occasions for street trading.

“I will not caution and discharge you because you are a regular offender of the law. The medical report shows that the victim suffered a scratch on his hand and right ankle, and because the offense is not too serious I will sentence you to seven days in prison,” she said.

In another matter, two accused persons, Lahai Mohai Kallon and Jalloh Aruna were arraigned before Principal Magistrate Bonnie for store breaking and larceny.

Police alleged that the accused persons on Friday June 5, 2020, at No.3 Mansaray Drive, Regent Village broke and entered the store of Hawa Veronica Koroma and stole nine bags of cement all to the total value of Le 6,930,000, property of Hawa Veronica Koroma.

Magistrate Bonnie admitted the accused persons to bail in the sum of Le10 million, one surety who must be a Sierra Leoneans and a resident in Freetown. She added that the surety must have a valid identification certificate and the bail must be approved by the deputy assistant registrar.

She then adjourned the matter to June 17,2020.
