Sierra Leone Ambassador rub shoulders with footballers in Egypt

Sierra Leone’s Ambassador to Egypt Morie Fofona, together with an eight-man delegation from the Embassy has acquainted themselves with Sierra Leonean footballers based in Cairo,  Egypt.

The delegation visited the footballers outdoor and familiarized themselves   with  the players in a training session at Masaken Al Mokattam, Al Abageya and El– Khalifa on Sunday and Thursday, respectively.

The Ambassador and his delegation were welcomed by former president and founder of the Sierra Leone Community in Egypt, Victor Niketa Peters, Team Instructor and former Leone Stars international Alimamy Okomie Sesay and the Team Coach Alimamy Tejan Camara.

During the visit, Ambassador Morie Fofana encouraged the footballers to work hard and be committed to training in order to be successful in their career.

 “Be effective and consistent because success is an embodiment of determination and performance. As young men, you should be full of enthusiasm to defend your career by dedicating time, skill, creativity and develop a positive mental attitude. Above all, character and good work habits are among many factors that accelerate career in life,” Amb. Fofana said.

Fofana admonished the footballers to supply their necessary personal information to the embassy, adding that by so doing the embassy would be able to input it into its database which would aid the carry out its mandate when necessary.

Head of the team, veteran and former player of Leone Stars Alimamy Okomie Sesay in response to Ambassador Fofana thanked him and  the delegation from the Embassy for  the interest they had shown in them, adding that the team comprises multi-talented young players most of whom are not on contract for the time being. He added that he always admonish the young players to be patience and be optimistic about their prospects as budding professional in the future.

He highlighted the fact that even the pitch they train on had been secured by pooling their individual resources together which they use to pay so that they will be allowed to do their training.  

The team captain, Alhassan Conteh said that their future is uncertain on the backdrop of the fact that most of them were not on contract, adding that that situation worsened their already rigorous conditions.  He added that they have however been forced to scout for other jobs to earn money.
