Sierra Leone Aquatics has once again become the first National Sports Federation to present qualified athletes to register participation at the 2024 Summer Olympic Games scheduled for July 26 through August 11 in Paris, France.
Household name Joshua JJ Wyse, OLY, and beamer Olamiday Elizabeth Sam will be competing at the Games.
Joshua, undergoing high performance training in Thailand, will be marking his second appearance at the Olympics whilst Olamiday, based in Sierra Leone, will be making her debut.
This means the Green, White, and Blue will be flown at the swimming venues throughout the competition.
To these delights, the President of the Sierra Leone Aquatics, Mohamed Turay, has remarked as saying: “I am so delighted that all the hard work, efforts, and finances put into ensuring that the athletes were trained to match up with qualifying standards have paid off! More opportunities will be created for the Country’s aquatics athletes.”
Sierra Leonean swimmers appeared in the last two Olympics (2016 and 2024), with the country’s Aquatics body leading the race among National Sports Federations in the presentation of qualified athletes during those times.
One month to Paris touchdown, Sierra Leone is still rummaging through the available. The number of athletes that will represent the Country in Paris may not exceed six at the maximum as efforts on qualifications could not see disciplines pulling through.
There will be a total of 206 countries represented in the 2024 Paris Olympics, featuring 32 sports, 329 medal events, second most in the history of the Games (339 at the 2020 Tokyo Summer Olympics).
