The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has on Friday August 14, 2020at Wilkinson Road in Freetown, discussed its annual “All African Service” project which aims at rendering services to communities across the nation.
Kenneth Panbu, the chairman of the Church’s communication council,at a media briefing organized for the purpose, informed journalists thatthe project is a yearly project which the Church implements every August in which every adult member of the church would goes to the designated areas in the municipality to render their specific services.
When describing the nature of the project, Panbu said that during the project volunteers from the church identify needs within communities andwork to provide service which would satisfy those needs.
He said that in prepare for the project, the membership of the church has been divided into clusters of six stakes and three districts. He further asserted that the Freetown stake will paintsome secondary schoolsand otherbuildings while theBo stake would clean the Old City Hall in Bo and paint a mosque.
“We usually undertake these projects every year in August in order to build strategic relationships with communities, and …their opinion leaders, toshow them loveand to show that it is important to make sacrifices for our brothers and sisters,” Panbu stated.
He added that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints isvery friendly with allreligions and interfaith bodies. “Wehave passion, respectand ready to work with all religious bodies. In SierraLeone we are ready to encourage religious tolerance.We want to interact with our Muslimbrothers, live peacefully and share love with one another, which has been the reason to undertake this project to paint a Mosque,”he emphasized, adding that as the country battles the Coronavirus, through its humanitarian wing, the church is complementing governments efforts by rendering assistance to the total worth of Le4,000,000, and that it will also donate a further Le 2,000,000to the Ministry of Health and Sanitation on Tuesday August 18, 2020 for the purchase of medical items.
