A community development group in the centre of Freetown, Catch the Young Support Group, on Sunday July 12, 2020, embarked on rigorous coronavirus sensitization exercise, as religious houses resume congregational worship.
The purpose of the public education exercise is to promote the need for churches and mosques to continue to observe preventive measures set by government and the health workers to prevent the Coronavirus from further spreading in the country.
Speaking during the sensitization program, Bob Wilson Bockarie, from the Strategic Communications Unit at the Ministry of Information and Communication, said that despite government strides in easing regulations which had initially been imposed to prevent the spread of the disease, citizens should be mindful of the fact that the virus had not been defeated. He warned members of the public to continue to adhere to preventive advises put forward by government and health care experts.
Mr. B.W. Bockarie said that things would get better soon, but the Government and the people of Sierra Leone were going through a trying time. “We must be resilient in the fight against COVID-19,” he said.
He donated Veronica buckets, hand sanitizers and soap to churches and mosques within constituency 124 for use during congregational worship.
Explaining about the organization and the sensitization program, the chairman Sidiru D.T. Moiguah” said that Catch the Young Support Group has been in existence for quite a long time.
He said that following the official launch of the group, it has focused on the Coronavirus sensitization which is ravaging the world including Sierra Leone.
“We are calling on all constituencies to continue doing the good work by preventing themselves from contacting the virus, more especially when we would see the mad rush into churches and mosques after a long time. With the Veronica bucket, hand sanitizer and soap, it will help churches and mosques greatly,” he added.
Alpha Saidu Bangura, also from the Strategic communication Unit at the Ministry of Information and Communication, called on the young people to take ownership of the country, and described President Bio as “a talk and do President” who believes in giving young people a platform to prove themselves. He added that the administration of President Bio had brought so much for young people in the country, more especially the girl child, as a lot of protection is in place for them, as defaulters of the Sexual Offences Act now get possible life sentences.
