Tamba Musa Marah of Morabie, a community of 5,000 inhabitants at Waterloo in the Western Area Rural District, has told Premier News on Thursday September 24,2020 that, the community has been neglected. He said the community is in dire need of pipe-born water, hospital, schools, cemetery, electricity and good roads and bridges which connects Morabie with other community.
He said that the makeshift bridge pictured above forms the boundary between Morabie and New London community, adding that due to its poor structure it becomes unusable.
The two communities depend on each other for services. “We usually go to New London to buy goods, but sometimes we would not be able to cross over there mostly in the rainy season,” he complained.
He said the makeshift wooden structures have stood as the connecting point for both communities for 80 years.
Marah added that the community has no place for burying the dead, which gives cause for bereaved family members to pay Le 300,000 for the mortal remains of their loved ones be buried in places that are not so close. “The community used to have a cemetery but the owner of the land has taken it from the community,” Marah revealed.
He appealed for government to designate a plot of land for the community for bury it dead.
He claimed that many of the inhabitants of the community had faced untimely deaths because there is no hospital within the community. He said that they have tried so many times to meet with the stakeholders in order to address their situations but no one has paid attention to them.
He said that Morabie is a big community of over 5,000 inhabitants with no pipe borne, but only well water which dries up as the intensity of the sun rises as rainy seasons turns into dry season leaving them with impure water.
He said that there are only two water wells which were dug by residents of the community.
“We are asking the government to pay more attention on this community as we are vulnerable people,” he concluded.
