Sierra Leone’s Under-19 Women’s Cricket delegation departed the shores of the Lion Mountain yesterday Tuesday August 20th, 2024 for Kigali, Rwanda where the ICC Under-19 Women’s T20 World Cup Africa Division 2 Qualifier will be hosted from August 19 through August 28, 2024.
According to the Cricket Sierra Leone (CSL) Media Department, they delegation comprises 17 individuals, with 14 players led by Captain Alice Fillie, Head Coach Mohamed Pagal Mansaray, and Team Manager Elizabeth Baby French. The Leader of the delegation, CSL’s Chairman Francis Trevor Samura, will join the squad in Kigali.
The contingent made their way to Kigali onboard Kenya Airways lastnight via Nairobi. It was expected to arrive at 8:10 am today.
The squad consists predominantly of young players. Eight new legs are being introduced with five old ones retained.
Sierra Leone will be competing against Malawi, Eswatini, and Ghana in Group B in a tournament of eight nations.
The top two teams will join other top five ranked teams plus Zimbabwe and will compete in the Africa Finals at a date yet to be fixed.
