The National COVID Emergency Response Centre (NaCOVERC) has allowed the national Football teams with pending international competitions, to resume training. The ban was lifted on Friday September 25, 2020, on the advice of NaCOVERC, through the Ministry of Sports and the National Sports Authority (NSA).
According to a press release issued by Ministry of Sports and NSA, “Sporting associations, coaches, athletes, referees, umpires, judges, sports administrators, among others, are strongly advised to follow all health directives and precautionary measures prescribed by NaCOVERC.”
The released further states that based on expert advice and specific to any sporting discipline, the NSA and the Ministry of Sports may prescribe additional measures to mitigate the risk of transmission of COVID-19.
The NSA and Ministry will conduct national monitoring of all sports and training venues across the country to ensure full compliance with all existing COVID -19 regulations.
According to the release information on the status of the ban on other levels of competitive and recreational sports may be communicated as and when the Ministry of Sports and the NSA are so advised.
It could be recall that the ministry of sports on March 17th, 2020 put a ban on all sporting activities to mitigate the spread of the Coronavirus as the high level of human to human contact in sports increases the risk of contracting the Coronavirus.
This has brought mixed feelings among fans as they had been expecting that the Premier League would have been allowed to start.
