Sierra Leone: Govt pays Le38.4bn for electrification of district towns

The Government of Sierra Leone through the Ministry of Finance has informed the public on Thursday that, it has paid Le38.4 billion to contractors   for the electrification of seven district towns in the country.  The fund constitutes 30% of the total amount earmarked for the projects.

The Government of Sierra Leone made this disclosure in a press release which intended to assert that it is making good on its promises to electrify Kabala, Kambia, Kailahun, Moyamba, Pujehun, Bonthe and Mattru Jong.

 “The public would recall that in the 2020 Supplementary Budget presented to Parliament in July 2020, Government allocated the sum of Lel72 billion for the electrification of seven district towns (Kabala, Kambia, Kailahun, Moyamba, Pujehun, Bonthe and Mattru Jong).”

“In August 2020, Government, represented by the Ministers of Energy and the Finance ministry, along with the contractors, signed the contracts for the design, supply, installation and commissioning of transmission and distribution networks in four towns such as Kabala, Kailahun, Kambia and Moyamba totaling Lel28,263,110,110.”

The government also informed the Public that the Ministry of Energy is well
advanced in the procurement processes for the remaining towns of Pujehun, Bonthe and Mattru Jong. Once these processes are completed, Government will immediately effect the advanced payment.
