The senior male national basketball team of Sierra Leone has lost to their Guinean counterpart in an international friendly match 40-79 points on Sunday, February 14, 2021, in Conakry.
The Sierra Leonean national team was able to impress their Guinean counterparts with young and talented players whose future prospects are bright in the game of Basketball.
The purpose of the match is to foster bilateral relations between the two countries in the area of sports.
According to the Head of Media, Alexandra Thullah, the journey started well when the delegation left the National Stadium by bus as everyone was in a high spirit until their arrival in Conakry.
He said that even though they went through some constraints at the border between Sierra Leone and Guinea, they had been told to wait for proper checking of their traveling documents and also for a bus from Guinea to pick them up at the border as a result of the border impasse between the two nations.
He further said that, it took the delegation two hours to go through all the protocols before they could enter Conakry. “It was really hectic for the entire delegation as the distance was long and the traffic congestion in the city was also nothing good to write home about. Some players and officials complained of feeling tired and hungry after all they had to go through.”
He said that the performances of the boys had been good and that they would return home to continue the team’s development.
