Sierra Leone: Kenema City Field to be in full operation by February

The Project Director of Edelgrass, Mark Van Spiel, has told sportsmen that the FIFA funded SLFA-Artificial Turf Project at the Kenema City field will be in full readiness by February, as work is in full progress.

Mark Van Spriel said he was happy with the rate of progress on the work that is being done on the ground. He assured SLFA and the people of Kenema that the pitch will be ready for matches as early as February 2021.

SLFA President Madam, Isha Johansen, responded thus: β€œI am filled with pride and joy that this project has finally kicked off, considering the numerous challenges the SLFA has faced concerning this project.”

She congratulated the people of Kenema for their patience and trust in her executive over the years. “Sierra Leone can be proud to boast of one of the finest turfs on the continent suitable to host high profile international matches,” Johansen asserted, and called on the Kenema people to take full ownership of this project.

Chris Kamara, General Secretary SLFA advised the authorities who would be managing the facilities not to allow it to be used for School Sports and Political rallies, adding  β€œin order for us to keep the project for the said time which is 15 years.”

The pitch will be a Modern pitch and advised that other pitches will be around for people to use so that we can protect the Kenema refurbish the pitch.
