After losing two international test matches, the senior male national football team of Sierra Leone, Leone Stars were on Sunday, October 25, 2020, moved to a training camp in Bo City for intensive and undistracted training ahead of the highly anticipated back-to-back 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches against the Super Eagles of Nigeria in November.
Assistant Coach 1 Amidu Karim said, “This move will help both the players and the technical team to be more focused as preparations intensify.”
”We must continue working really hard to be able to achieve the level of fitness that will earn us a respectable result against Nigeria. We owe this to the Nation,” He added.
After moving to their weeklong training camp in Bo, the 28 home-based players had their first training session on October 26 in Bo City Stadium situated along the Bo-Kenema highway.
Sierra Leone stands at 119 in the FIFA World Rankings, two places below its previous ranking. Fans registered great dissatisfaction over the team’s recent poor performance by losing 2-1 against Mauritania and 1-0 to Niger.
Sierra Leone’s current position in the AFCON Qualifiers for Cameroon is right at the bottom with just one point after playing two matches so far.
