Alusine G. Conteh aka Kronic X, a local musician in the East-end of Freetown, has told Premier News that he has recently released a song to raise awareness in the battle against the deadly Coronavirus pandemic. He made the statement in an interview with this medium on Sunday June 7, 2020, during which he further revealed that the song speaks about current State of Emergency, the negative effects of the virus, and also admonishes Sierra Leoneans to adhere to the precautionary measures set by the government and medical professionals to prevent the virus from spreading.
He commented, “In the fight of COVID-19, I believe that nothing can pass on the message to the people faster than music. So to give my own contribution to the nation as a patriot, I had to make this song, through the help of Unique Multimedia, which I titled ‘the State of Emergency’. The song is about the State of Emergency and the Coronavirus, it negative effects and how to stay safe.”
He explained that in 2010 he started his career as a musician, after he had been inspired by Busy Signal a Jamaican artist and also Morgan Heritage, a Jamaican Band playing a brand of Reggae music popularly known as lovers Rock. He stated that prior to his journey into popular music he had gained some knowledge in church music from the Church where he served as a chorister.
Conteh said that he does Reggae and Dance Hall music and have recorded many songs in the past.
He further stated that being a musician has accorded him the opportunity to visit many places and also meet other musicians. “Music can create opportunities and is also a way of life even though it involves so many challenges,” he says.
He revealed that he faced a lot of challenges like criticisms, lack of finances, promotion and management, earlier in his career, but persevered in the face of all his adversities “I always keep on the fight to reach my dreams, when you want something you need to go all out for it. So I am still on the fight,” he emphasized.
He said that the outbreak of Coronavirus has made things more difficult in the entertainment industry in Sierra Leone, and alluded to the fact that the events from which entertainers earn money had all been interrupted.
He advised musicians to put in the hard work that would see them achieve their dreams no matter what difficulty they faced.
He called for unity among entertainers as they contribute in the fight against the Coronavirus disease in the nation.
