Music Heals, a non-profit music organization, has on Thursday June 25, 2020, held a concert at the Don Bosco Fambul, as part of a musical tour it did in the Western Area aimed at easing the stresses of children through music.
Music Heals is a non-profit music organization established to transform and empower children, youths, families and communities through free music education, drama, dance, ethics, basic computer literacy and mentorship.
Simeon Bangura, the founder of the organization who also plays and teaches music, explained that Music Heals was born during the aftermath of the Ebola outbreak and Mudslides in Sierra Leone to help ease stress and heal the depressed children through musical performances and education during those periods.
He believes that music and education in the Arts is essential to all children and young people, adding that that was why he had brought together different active Music teachers in Freetown to help offer free music education programs to different orphanages and help the less privileged and vulnerable people in society. “We realized that many children in orphanages and homes could not access music making, so we had this idea to create a means to introduce music education for them. We nurture their creativities, direct them to appreciate music of all types, teach them how to practice by themselves and in a group, teach them to understand the value of hard work and team work, and to appreciate the discipline needed to work together,” Bangura said.
Bangura revealed that they are currently offering free music education to three organizations: Don-Bosco Fambul, Laughter Africa and Way Out.
He added that they give free music practices on the Keyboard, recorder, guitar, marching drums and also music theory classes on many other musical instruments.
He stated that, the Organization is in need of volunteers and sponsorship.
He emphasized, “We need supports. We are calling on the Government, NGOs and other humanitarian bodies to assist this organization in order to improve the good work and extend it to other organizations across the country support from anybody would be very important.”
