Sierra Leone: NOC and Athletics Association get NSA recognition

The National Sports Authority (NSA) has presented certificates of registration to the National Olympic Committee of Sierra Leone (NOCSLE) and the Sierra Leone Athletics Association after both fulfilled the criteria needed for registration.

During the Presentation of the certificate to President Abdul Karim Sesay of the Athletics Association, the Executive Director of NSA Dr. Kenneth Brima said the administration of athletics association during the current tenure of Karim has done great things in the country, by winning laurels for the country and securing scholarships for coaches and athletes to get further training.

This he said has changed the lives of so many of them and signifies great promise for the future.  Mr. Abdul Karim went on to thank and appreciate the efforts which NSA has made to develop sports in the country. He further stated that he believes that the Board members of NSA loves sports and are capable to developing sports in the country.

He however assured NSA that as the sport that has brought the most laurels for the Country, he assured that athletic authorities   are ready to do more with the help from NSA.

He added that he doesn’t doubt the leadership of NSA’s Dr. Kenneth Brima, with whom he had worked when that institution was formerly known as National Sports Council.

National Olympic Committee Sierra Leone NOCSL Secretary General, Joseph Nyande, expressed his delight to be part of NSA, and commented that they at the NOCSL maintain a positive view about the NSA.

Mr. Nyande stated that at NSA a Board members’ business is to work with the Government of Sierra Leone for the benefit of the athletes and the officials who are responsible to train them.

However, NOC awarded scholarships to coaches to train outside Sierra Leone and they also organize local trainings with experts from overseas. He appealed to NSA to organize programs that will identify talents which he said will help to develop sports in the country.
