The Head of Media and Communication at the National Sports Authority, Eric Fomba, has on Thursday June 11, 2020 told Premier News that the 2018 National Sport Authority (NSA) Act has replaced the National Sport Council (NSC) Act of 1964 and there is a communique sent to all the sporting disciplines to start working directly with the Authority.
Mr. Fomba further stated that the statement by President Julius Maada Bio committing himself to supporting the 2018 National Sport Authority is a wakeup call for the development of sports in the country.
He added that the NSC Act of 2018 would sets a new trajectory for sports, especially with the issue of finance, which has been a major issue among sporting disciplines in the country.
He however called on the various national Sports Associations to start developing their program of activities because there would be several opportunities for athletes to empower themselves and excel under the new National Sports Authority.
He went on to explain that the 2018 National Sport Authority is an institution created by a document that was put together by the former Minister of Sports, Ahmed Khanou. Adding that the Sports Authority made up of a Board of Directors.
NAS on Wednesday June 10th, 2020 held its first meeting with the Sierra Leone Football Association and the Cricket Association in discussing the way forward for the development of sports in the country.
