Sierra Leone: Operations Manager sent on remand

Gershon Compagnie Coker, Operations Manager of Con and Sil Security Services on Lightfoot Boston Street Freetown, was on Monday July 20, 2020, sent to prison by Magistrate Hannah Bonnie of Court No. 1 on Pademba Road, Freetown for an alleged act of financial impropriety in his institution.

According to the police, the accused, Gershon Compagnie Coker between the 31st January and 31st May 2020, at Klynveld Peal Marwick Goerdeler (KPMG) Office in Freetown, allegedly embezzled the sum of Le 13,000,000 on behalf of Con and Sil Security services.

The accused Gershon Compagnie Coker is charged with one count of embezzlement contrary to Section 17 (b) of the Larceny Act 1916.

ASP Ibrahim Sheik Mansaray prosecuted the matter, but the accused was not legally represented. Magistrate Bonnie adjourned the matter to the 23rd July 2020, whiles Coker remains in custody at the Male Correctional Centre on Pademba Road in Freetown.

In another matter, Principal Magistrate Hannah Bonnie, of the Freetown Magistrate Court No.1 on Monday July20, 2020, committed a matter in which an accused person sold a vehicle with registration No. ANS 007, which belonged to one Isata Bah who had entrusted it to him.

The accused was charged with fraudulent conversion, because by selling the vehicle without the permission of its true owner he had treated someone else’s property as if it were his. Police alleged that, sometime in 2018, at No. 11 Carlton Carew Road, Off Wilkinson Road in Freetown, the accused fraudulently converted the sum of Le 32, 250,000 to his own use, after he sold the vehicle which was entrusted to him by one Isata Bah.

The police charged the accused for felony, and the matter was being preliminarily investigated. At the end of the investigations, Principal Magistrate Hannah Bonnie concluded that there is sufficient evidence for the accused person to be put on trial at the High Court of Sierra Leone. Magistrate Bonnie, however, admitted the accused person to bail in the sum of Le 200 million after committing the matter to the High Court, but the accused could not take advantage of it because he could not meet the bail conditions, and he was sent back to prison at the Male Correctional Centre on Pademba Road in Freetown.
