Sierra Leone: Orange-SL commemorates international fraud week with quiz competition

In a bid to strengthen and continue raising awareness on mobile fraud, Orange-SL has on Thursday November 19, 2020, raised the  awareness of its staff on fraud by organizing a quiz competition at its  Hill Station head office in Freetown.

Mohamed Bah, Fraud Management Analysis, Orange Sierra Leone, explained that the quiz was part of an awareness raising week on mobile fraud which is observed yearly to create awareness on fraud.

He added that to mark the commemoration, from the 15th – 21st November, the Company normally lines up a program of activities to spread awareness to staff and customers on  fraud, and that week is dubbed, ‘The international fraud awareness week’. According to Bah, the reason why it is done is because fraud impacts both the company and its customers.

He admitted that the attitude of staff whenever admonished on the need to fighting fraud they get frown, adding: “so this time around we decided to create awareness that centre around testing the knowledge of the staff as far as their understating and awareness about fraud which is the main reason why we organized such a competition, and before this quiz we had a seminar in which notes were given to those who participated.”

Mr. Bah said that fraudsters were using the Company brand to cheat customers.

He revealed that a couple of weeks ago he went to the provinces, where they educated marketers of SIM cards on ways to combat fraud, and pledged that they will continue the public education drive through jingles, billboards etc.

He further said that four departments took part in the competition: General Secretary and Finance, CEO & Marketing, HR & ITN and Commercial.

CEO & Marketing won the competition with a cash prize of three million Leones which was sheared among their three teammates, and other branded Orange items were given to all participating departments.
