The para-athletes in Sierra Leone have resumed effective training for the Para Athletics qualification in Tunisia which is scheduled from the 14th – 21st March 2021. Only athletes who qualify will take part in the Tokyo games.
According to the media department of Para Athletics, the official training which started on Monday February 22, 2021, at the Siaka Stevens Stadium in Freetown will put the athletes in a better shape of mind before the qualifier.
The Technical Coordinator of the Sierra Leone Athletics Association, Harold Palmer and staff are in charge of the training.
Athletes Juan Jackson and Sorie Kargbo are very optimistic and determined to qualify in Tunisia and represent Sierra Leone in the Tokyo Paralympic Games in August this year.
It could be recalled that last week the Para Weightlifters also resumed training at the Siaka Stevens Stadium Gym in Freetown.
These athletes were on effective training when the coronavirus pandemic hit Sierra Leone early last year resulted in the banning of all sports activities in the country by the government.
However, the executive of the Paralympic Committee in Sierra Leone confined the athletes in a safe environment until the ban was lifted.
According to the Secretary General of the Paralympic Committee, Alexandra Thulla, they are planning to travel with more athletes for the qualifying if the funds are available.
He believes that more than four athletes will qualify for the Tokyo Games if giving the opportunity.
