Sierra Leone: Police engage bike riders

The Regional Police Commander Freetown East,  Chief Superintendent Hazley in collaboration  with the Local Police Partnership Board (LPPB) on Monday held a consultative meeting with cross-section of executive of the Commercial Motorbike Riders Union.

The meeting was held at Ross Road Police Station in Freetown. The meeting sought to dismiss rumors that some commercial motorbike riders would be engaging in strike action and cause mayhem in the east end of Freetown.

During the consultative dialogue, the Regional Police Commander, Chief Superintendent Hazley expressed gratitude to the riders who made effort to attend the gathering.

He warned the motorbike riders present to desist and deviate from any act of lawlessness that may cause mayhem, adding that if they feel aggrieved they should put forward their concerns to the Sierra Leone police for redress.

The Regional Chairman Bike Riders Association, Ishmael Sankoh and the Public Relations Officer of the Commercial Motorbike Riders Union Mohamed A.T. Nabieu assured the police that they would ensure bike riders adhere and work within the confines of the law.

He appealed to the police to impose fines on riders rather than that impounding bikes whenever they are in conflict with the law.
