Sierra Leone: Rapper releases single

Habib Bukum commonly, aka Prince Max, a local musician in the east of Freetown, said that he has recently released a song titled ‘Message to the Street,’ a song which advises youths to be aware of the need to develop themselves and be conscious.

He said that most youths of today do not approach life with a serious attitude, but prefer violence from which they gain nothing.

He emphasized, “Youths should pursue their future and pay less attention to politics and politicians, because they always lead them into the wrong directions at the end and realize nothing but failure.”

According to Max, he is a rapper who had lived in the rap field for over ten years. He sees his music as revolutionary songs preaching against violence and any inhuman acts distressing the nation.

“I used to listen to Tupac Shakur, because of his choice of words and his greatness in lyrics.”

He said that he had released songs like ‘Fed-up’ which talks about hardship in the country, ‘Message to the street’, a motivational song to the youths, ‘The truth, ‘Africa’ and ‘If I have you’ a love based song featuring P.Mil (another local artist).

He explained that, there are lots of challenges which are limiting Sierra Leonean music from reaching the international standard.

He called for players (musicians, film makers and the other categories) in the entertainment industry in Sierra Leone to inculcate love, peace and unity.

“Love for one another is what is totally absent in the entertainment industry today, and that has greatly contributed in the depreciation of the entertainers. Working together would help us grow,” he added.
