Sierra Leone has recorded 1,401 cases of still births across the country of which 821 (59%) were males and 580 (41%) females, according to the National Civil Registration Authority (NCRA) 2020 report released on Thursday December 31, 2020.
According to the report, there were 130,978 live births with a proportion of 57,881 (49%) males and 59,878 (51%) females. Of the population, a total of 126,369 were registered, a statistics which obviously shows that the female population is virtually on the increase as against the male population in the country.0.
“Also, 20,491 deaths were reported accounting for 11,080 (54%) males and 9,411 (46%) females. Of the population, a total number of 18,855 were registered with a proportion of 10,190 males and 8,665 females during the period under review. A statistics which shows that men are dying in the country as compared to that of women,” NCRA said in a statement.
Accordingly, the data depicts that out of the total number of Births and Deaths recorded 96% and 94% were registered, respectively, meaning that there are more births than deaths in the country for the period under review.
The data covers from the 1st day of January 2020 through December, 2020. The Authority therefore encourages the public to register their births and deaths as well as other vital events occurring in the country.
NCRA is a government agency which was established through an Act of Parliament with the mandate to publish a comprehensive vital statistic covering Births, Deaths, Adoption, Marriages, Divorces, Nullities etc. as captured in section 26 (1) of the NCRA Act of 2016.
