The technical Department of the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) has organized football clinics across the country in search of U-15/17 footballers to represent Sierra Leone in the WAFU Zone A CAF U-17 Qualifiers which Sierra Leone will in December.
John Jeboh Sherrington, Technical Director of the Sierra Leone Football Association, on Tuesday assembled over 60 U-17 players, drawn from different parts of the country, in Makeni for further training ahead of the WAFU Zone A CAF U-17 Qualifiers. “We are trying to get a better and preferred youth players for our country,” he said. Head coach of the national U-17 Team Raymond Lewis and his team are in charge of training the pool of young players who in a week’s time will be further shortlisted.
He is confident that in a few years “we are going to get a strong and vibrant team for both U-15/17 because these boys have great strength and passion for the game.” He promises that the technical staff will give all their expertise to help them develop in their career. “It is difficult at this time to choose, but we have no choice, but be honest to ourselves as coaches in doing the right thing by helping these young boys,” he said.
In a statement put out by the Sierra Leone Football Association the Head of Competition, Sorie Ibrahim Sesay Head of Protocol and Event Management Abubakarr Kamara, Event Management and Protocol Officer Alusine Aiah Kabba and staff of the Northern Regional FA will help to provide administrative support to this historic process in Makeni.
The Vice President 2 SLFA Mr. Alie M. Kargbo congratulated the team of players from Freetown and other part of the country for making it through to this stage of the trials. “This is about your country and your career as a football player. Therefore, make sure you pay the greatest attention into your trainings.” Mr. Ali said, “the skills I’ve seen you all display here this morning, combined with hard work and respect for your coaches can make you achieve your dreams in football,” he added.
Mr. Kargbo further stated that “the SLFA President Isha Johansen has great passion for young players. She will provide you with the fullest support in chasing your dreams.”
Northern Regional F.A. Chairman Mr. Brima Jalloh, Executive Officer Mr. Harold Nat-Johnson and Secretary General of the Western Area Football Association Benjamin Gordon witnessed the first training session at the Wusum Stadium this morning.
