Sierra Leone: SLFA vs NSA & Sports Ministry trade blows over appointment of new Leone Stars Team Manager

Just few hours after the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) announced the appointment of new technical officers into the Technical Team of Leone Stars, the National Sports Authority in collaboration with the Ministry of Sports in a Press release issue on Monday March 8, 2021 frowned at the decision of the Sierra Leone Football Association to replace Christian Dauda as Leone Stars Team Manager.

The Sierra Leone Football Association  said in a press release that “it is pleased to announce to the general public, especially the football family, the following appointments as technical staff of the National Senior Men’s Team (Leone Stars); Babadi Kamara as Team Manager and Ernest Kamara as Kit Manager.”

In a contrary statement by the Ministry of Sports and the National Sports Authority, the said appointments had not been done in consultation with them.

The Ministry and the NSA made it clear that they would continue to recognize the current Team Manager and in particular the Welfare Officer who doubles as Kits Manager at the same time.

Their statement went on to state that, the appointment in the management of the national team at all levels should be collaborative and consultative in the interest of the Country, and that they should be  devoid of political favor especially now that the SLFA elections are right at the corner.

The Ministry of Sports and the National Sports Authority in the media release reminded the Sierra Leone Football Association and the public about their statutory responsibilities which include; overseeing sports policy, regulating, monitoring, supervising, promoting and developing sports in Sierra Leone.
