Members of the Timber Association Sierra Leone (TASL) have on Wednesday elected Mohamed Forneh as the chairman of the association.
Forneh pulled 24 votes out of 41 votes cast at the National and District election which were held at the Buxton Hall, Charles Street in Freetown.
Other newly elected members of the National Executive are: Mr. Augustine J. Bappie, Secretary General; Yusuf Koroma, Public Relations Officer (PRO); and Lamine Denkeh Kargbo, Financial Secretary.
The election gives the new executive a four-year mandate.
According to the chairman and returning officer, National Electoral Commission (NEC), Sallu Ngombulamgo, the election was conducted on a simple first past the post system, adding that five candidates vied for the chairmanship position.
He said that the election was free and fair. He thanked all those who in one way or the other participated in the electioneering process and ensured the election was peaceful.
The newly elected chairman, Forneh appreciated those who bestowed confidence in him. He added that there is no loser in the election. “I will bring changes to the Association,” he vowed.
He appreciated Alhaji Bah for his service as past acting chairman of the Association. “I am ready to work with him fully.”
The election came following several disagreements among members of the association.
Timber Association Sierra Leone (TASL) was formed in 2006.
