Sierra Leone to Host WAFU-A U-20 Female Tournament

Minister of Sports Ibrahim Nyelenkeh and the Executive Director of the National Sports Authority Kenneth Brima have received a letter from the President of the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA), Thomas Daddy Brima confirming the approval from the West African Football Union (WAFU) to host this year’s WAFU-A U20 Female tournament in Freetown.

The recognition from WAFU to approve Sierra Leone to host the U20 Female WAFU-A tournament is a laudable achievement to the government and His Excellency, Rtd Dr. Julius Maada Bio’s commitment to developing sports and improving the standard of achievable in the sports sectors.

The Minister of Sports, Ibrahim Nyelenkeh pledges the government’s support to host this year’s tournament in Sierra Leone.

“I am very excited that Sierra Leone has been approved to host such an important tournament. This shows the solidarity, improvement and development within the sports sector,” Minister Nyelenkeh said.

“As a nation, we can now boast of hosting such tournament due to the improvement in the infrastructure and facilities required for such competition. This is indeed a cohesion of bilateral relationship between and among the West African nations,” Minister Nyelenkeh added.

Dr. Kenneth Brima expresses great support from the National Sports Authority (NSA) in ensuring the full participation of Sierra Leone in the tournament.

“The NSA will ensure a good working relationship with the Ministry of Sports and SLFA to make a good tournament as always” Kenneth Brima stated.

The WAFU-A U20 Female tournament is a competition that is contested by representative teams of the West African Football Union. The tournament is scheduled to start on May 22, 2023, and will end on June 3, 2023.
