Sierra Leone: UAE Company to invent in rice production in Lokomasama

The Vice President of The Republic of Sierra Leone, Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh, has revealed that the United Arab Emirate (UAE) based group called Agro Elite will cultivate 14,700 hectares of farmland at the Rhombeh Swamp in the Lokomasama Chiefdom, Portloko District.
“Rhombeh Swamp is going to be rejuvenated by the New Direction Government,” he noted. The Vice President made the revelation at a well-attended meeting at Gbinti-Wallah on Saturday August 15, 2020.

He informed the people about the signing of the agreement and the allocation of funds for theRhombeh Swamp agricultural project.He stated that the rice project will increase food production in the country and serve as a catalyst for Lokomasama to become a centre of attraction in Sierra Leone.

He further explained that the Company will construct a factory for the production, packaging and sale of rice cultivated from the Rhombeh Swamp, and maintained that the operation of the company will lead to the creation of thousands of jobs, especially for indigenes of Lokomasama Chiefdom.

The Vice President encouraged the community people to support the agricultural company, and provide good land for them to cultivate rice, emphasizing that it would motivate the company to do more and makePortloko proud.

Hesaid that another meeting will be convened with the people of Lokomasamathat will be attended by the ministers of Agriculture. He said that the purpose of that particular meeting is to formally handover the Agricuture Ministers to the community, and for the ministers to explain to the community the benefits of the project.
