The Ministry of Defense has in a press release on Monday August 31, 2020, said that it had concluded investigation into the matter involving personnel who were released from serving in the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces as men Wounded-in-Action (WIA), and that that all registered WIA personnel met the prescribed requirement for enhanced disability benefits.
John A. S. Gbondo, Director of Defense Public Relations and Defense spokesman, said that MOD investigated the matter between the Accountant General’s Department (AGD) and the executive of WIA in a bid to resolve the matter.
He cited that the payment of retirement benefits to personnel retired as Wounded-in-Action personnel has been a long drawn out issues that successive governments have grappled with over the years.
“AGD through National Social Security and Insurance Trust (NASSIT) has met all their obligations regarding payment of enhanced disability benefits including all arrears to all WIA personnel,” Gbondo said.
According to Gbondo, the matter has been resolved between the two parties. He added that MOD appreciates the invaluable service of all Wounded-in-Action personnel to the nation.
