Sierra Leone: Woman in Le177m Fraud to serve 24 months behind bars

Rugiatu Jalloh, 22, of No. 22 Nyeyama Road, Daru in Jawe Chiefdom in   Kailahun District will spend two years in prison.

 Justice Abdul Rahman Mansaray found her guilty of fraudulent conversation contrary to section 20(1)(IV) (a) of the Larceny Act 1916. 

The prosecution in this matter had given evidence that on December 1, 2019 at Tonkolili District in the Northern Province of the Republic of Sierra Leone, she dishonestly dealt with moneys which she held in trust for another person as if they were hers. She turned into her own use and benefits the sum of US$16,800 (Le 174,720,000) and the sum of Le 3,000,000 entrusted to her by Musa Shaw for safe keeping.

Rugiatu Jalloh was charged to count for two counts of fraudulent conversation contrary to section 20(I) (IV)(a) of the larceny Act  of 1916.

She was acquitted and discharged on count two, but found guilty on count one and was then sentenced to two years in prison.

The case of Rugiatu Jalloh was prosecuted by Lawyer J.B. Dauda FCA (SL), FCCA on behalf of the State. The two accused persons were represented by defence counsel, Patrick Kamara of Legal Aid Board for Kenema and Kailahun Districts, respectively.
