Late December 2020, a five man delegation departed Sierra Leone to attend a seminar in Guinea on how to empower girls and women through sports.
Amongt the delegation were Joseph Nyande, NOC Secretary General who led the delegation; Pamela Williams, president of Women and Sports Commission in Sierra Leone; Elizabeth French Secretary, General of the Commission; and two other members from the Commission.
The seminar started on the 27th and ended on the 30th of December 2020. Last Friday the delegation met the President of the National Olympic Committee, Dr. Patrick Coker at his Howe Street office in Freetown and presented the report on the seminar.
In his statement, Joseph Nyande told Dr. Coker that there were air tickets available for the delegation, but because of the countries they were to transit before reaching Guinea and the number of COVID19 tests involved they opted to travel by road.
He noted that in spite of some constraints they underwent when travelling to Guinea by road, they arrived safe and returned safe.
President of Women and Sports Commission Mrs. Pamela Williams thanked the NOC President for according g them the privilege of attending the seminar.
She noted that for quite a long time they had not been privileged to travel out of Sierra Leone. She told Dr. Coker that they discussed vital things in the seminar that will help girls and women in sports.
She further informed the NOC president that they were having problems in having young girls come into the Commission, but say they are now working on bringing some girls in sports into the Commission.
Dr. Patrick Coker thanked the delegation for their efforts in representing Sierra Leone in the seminar.
He then advised the president of the Commission to organize a one-day seminar, which he said the NOC will fund to share the knowledge with other women and girls in sports. In this case, he said they should at least invite one or two women from each sport for the one-day seminar.
